The G5 and G5 Hubcaps got a pretty interesting start. GM had started with the Chevy Cobalt Coupe; then they made some changes with the design of the grille, the headlights, taillights, interior materials, and the trim. After they thought they had made enough changes to it, they rebadged it as the Pontiac G5 with OE G5 Hub Caps on it.
I guess you can say that the G5 was the Cobalt with another identity – almost like it was living a double life. It was great when it came to performance and ride quality, but some savvy shoppers soon realized that the car and G5 Hubcaps had lacked the sophistication and quality that other models had.
